Our Approach

Finding Opportunities to Help

DVF takes a proactive approach to identifying veterans who may benefit from assistance. We seek opportunities through community outreach and by developing relationships with veterans service offices and other organizations that work with veterans.

These connections can help us find needs that might otherwise go unnoticed and better understand the circumstances surrounding them.

Understanding the Individual

Before considering assistance, we seek to understand the veteran’s situation, the need being addressed, and the likely benefit of our involvement.

We consider whether the proposed support addresses an underlying obstacle, whether it is practical, and whether its benefits are likely to endure. This helps us choose opportunities carefully.

Concentrating Our Efforts

Our approach favors substantial assistance to fewer individuals when that offers greater lasting value. We aim to make a worthwhile contribution rather than spread our resources so thinly that their effect is limited.

The form of assistance may vary. We maintain flexibility because individual needs do not always fit neatly into a fixed program.

How Assistance Is Considered

DVF identifies potential recipients through its own outreach and community relationships. We do not accept unsolicited grant applications or requests for financial assistance.

Assistance is considered individually and depends on available funding, the nature of the need, and alignment with our mission. Identification or referral does not guarantee assistance.
